About 3D Treasure Hunt Island

3D Treasure Hunt Island drops you onto a handcrafted low-poly island ringed by an animated ocean. Your only tool is a compass in the corner of the screen that points to the nearest uncollected treasure — but it tells you direction, not distance. Distance comes from the screen itself: the edges of the display glow a warm gold as you close in on a hidden item, shifting to dark and cold when you drift the wrong way. Learning to read both together is the whole game.

Fifteen treasures are scattered across three distinct zones. On the Beach you'll find glittering gold coins half-buried in the sand near the waterline. Venture into the dense Jungle midzone and glowing teal gemstones are tucked between the trees on slopes where the canopy thickens. At the summit, the Ancient Ruins hold the rarest prizes — ornate treasure chests that pulse with warm light, some hidden behind fallen columns and altar stones. The island has a natural boundary: wade too far into the ocean and the current pushes you back, so every path must go through the terrain.

There are no time limits and no fail states — just you, the island, and the compass. A best-time clock records how quickly you clear all fifteen treasures, making a zero-backtrack speed run the ultimate challenge. Walk, sprint, jump across boulders, and use the rotating compass to triangulate your route between the three zones for the fastest path.

How to Play 3D Treasure Hunt Island

  1. Use W/A/S/D or Arrow keys to move. Hold Shift to sprint. Press Space to jump — useful for climbing the rocky terrain toward the Ruins.
  2. Press Q or E to rotate the camera left or right. The camera follows your movement direction, so keep rotating to get a clear view of the terrain ahead.
  3. Watch the compass in the top-right corner. The golden arrow rotates to point toward the nearest uncollected treasure relative to your current facing direction. The number below it is the distance in metres.
  4. Watch the screen edges. When they glow gold, you are getting close to a treasure. The brighter the glow, the nearer the item. Dark edges mean you are moving away — turn around and try a different direction.
  5. Walk up to a treasure to collect it automatically. Chests need the closest approach (1.8 m), gemstones a bit less (1.5 m), and coins are easiest to grab (1.2 m). The compass jumps to the next nearest item after each collection.
  6. Find all 15 treasures to complete the island. Your total time is shown on the victory screen and saved as your best time. On repeat runs, try to plan a route that sweeps Beach, Jungle, and Ruins in sequence without backtracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the three treasure types look like?

Gold coins are flat spinning discs found on the beach near the waterline — easy to spot if you stay at low elevation. Gemstones are elongated teal crystals tucked in the jungle mid-slopes — look for a faint cyan glow between the trees. Treasure chests are wooden boxes with a slightly open golden lid and a warm amber point-light glow — they are the hardest to find, placed near the ruins at the summit and in distant corners of the beach.

Does the compass always point to the absolute nearest treasure?

Yes, the compass updates every frame and always points to the nearest uncollected treasure in straight-line distance, regardless of terrain. This means it may point 'through' a hill rather than along a walkable path. Use the warm-glow indicator to confirm you are physically getting closer as you navigate around obstacles.

What happens if I walk into the ocean?

The ocean pushes you back toward the island — you cannot swim past the boundary. The water is decorative and non-lethal. You can wade into the shallows briefly (the terrain slopes down to the waterline) but the push-back activates at the island boundary radius, keeping you on walkable terrain at all times.

Is there a save system or can I continue from where I stopped?

The game tracks your best completion time in your browser's local storage across sessions, but there is no mid-run save. Each run always starts with all 15 treasures uncollected. The island is small enough that a full run takes 5–10 minutes — the best-time tracker is there to encourage replays and route optimisation, not to compensate for a save system.

Can I play on mobile?

This game requires keyboard input — WASD to move, Q and E to rotate the camera, Shift to sprint, and Space to jump. Without keyboard access you cannot explore the island. Best played on a desktop or with an external keyboard.
