About Block Puzzle: Classic

Block Puzzle: Classic is the distraction-free mode of the falling-block formula. The playing field is a transparent glass well viewed from an isometric 3D angle, but every piece is rendered with a flat, matte Lambert surface — solid colour, no glow, no specular flash. What you see is a clean, readable stack of coloured cubes that let you focus entirely on placement rather than visual spectacle. If flashing neon makes it harder to read the stack at speed, this is the mode for you.

Seven tetrominoes cycle through a shuffled 7-bag so you never face a drought of any one shape. A semi-transparent ghost piece tracks exactly where the active piece will land. Slide with the arrow keys, rotate with Up, soft-drop with Down, or slam the piece to the bottom with Space for a hard-drop bonus. Completed rows flash once and disappear, collapsing everything above them.

Scoring follows the classic scale — 100 for one line, 300 for two, 500 for three, 800 for four — all multiplied by the current level. Every 10 lines cleared bumps the level and tightens the fall speed. Your best score is saved in the browser so you always have a target to chase. No distractions, no effects — just blocks and strategy.

How to Play Block Puzzle: Classic

  1. Press PLAY on the intro screen. Tetrominoes fall from the top of the glass well — use ← / → (or A / D) to slide the piece left or right.
  2. Press ↑ (or W) to rotate the piece clockwise. Wall kicks let you rotate near the edges — the piece shifts inward if needed.
  3. Press ↓ (or S) to soft-drop for speed and a 1-point-per-row bonus. Press Space to hard-drop instantly to the ghost-piece position for a 2-point-per-row bonus.
  4. Fill every cell across a horizontal row to clear it. Clear 1 row = 100 pts, 2 = 300, 3 = 500, 4 = 800 — all × level. Clear 10 lines to level up and increase fall speed. Press P to pause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why flat graphics instead of neon or shiny blocks?

Flat matte surfaces reduce visual noise at the stack boundary — it's easier to read the height of each column and spot gaps when the blocks are solid colours with no glow or specular reflection. At higher levels where pieces fall fast, clean visuals make a real difference to reaction time.

What is the ghost piece?

The faint white outline at the bottom of the well shows exactly where the active piece will land if you drop it now. It updates live as you move and rotate, so you can plan your placement without guessing.

How does the bag randomiser work?

All 7 piece types are shuffled into a bag and dealt one by one. When the bag is empty, a fresh shuffled bag begins. This guarantees you see every piece type at least once every 7 pieces — no long droughts of the I-piece.

Is my best score saved?

Yes — your highest score is stored in browser localStorage under the key blockPuzzleNormalHS. It persists across sessions until you clear browser site data. The HUD shows your current best at all times so you know exactly when you beat your record.

Can I play on mobile?

Yes — on touch devices, on-screen buttons appear below the game. Tap ← / → to slide the piece, Rotate to spin it clockwise, ↓ to soft-drop for speed, and Hard Drop to place it instantly.
