Gameszest is adding a new title to the library: Ludo, the classic race-and-capture board game that has been a household favourite for generations. It is live now, free, and playable instantly in any modern browser - no download, no account, no waiting.
What Is Ludo?
Ludo is a strategy board game for two to four players. Each player starts with four tokens in their home base and races them clockwise around the board toward the centre, which counts as the finish. The first player to bring all four tokens home wins.
The catch is the dice. You need to roll a six just to get a token onto the board. Every move after that is one square per pip - and the board is shared with opponents who are trying to do exactly the same thing. Land on an opponent’s token and it goes straight back to their base. Land on yours and they go back to theirs.
It sounds simple. It rarely stays that way.
How the Gameszest Version Works
You play as Red against three AI opponents - Blue, Yellow, and Green. The board is a classic 15x15 Ludo layout with coloured home quadrants, safe star squares where captures cannot happen, and a coloured home column for each player leading to the centre.
Click the dice to roll. If you roll a six, any eligible token highlights and you pick which one to move. Rolling a six also earns you an extra turn (up to three consecutive sixes before the turn passes). Once a token is on the board, it moves the rolled number of squares clockwise. When it reaches its home column it travels inward toward the centre - and once it arrives, it is safe and scored.
The AI opponents play at a consistent level: they prioritise getting tokens out of base on a six, chase captures when they can reach an opponent’s token, and push tokens toward home when no capture is available.
Tips to Win
- Get all four tokens out early. A token sitting in base cannot be captured, but it also cannot score. Every token in base is a wasted six.
- Use safe squares strategically. The star squares scattered around the board are capture-free zones. If a risky token can reach one, prioritise that move over advancing a safe token.
- Chase captures when the risk is low. Sending an opponent back to base sets them back by the full length of the track. If you can capture without exposing a token of your own, take it.
- Split your tokens. Bunching all four tokens together looks safe but gives opponents multiple turns to dodge you. Spread them so you have threats from several positions at once.
